Get ready for some zombie killing mayhem! Dead Rising 4 was revealed during Microsoft’s E3 2016 press conference to critical acclaim.
The latest title in the hit franchise returns to its roots, starring the original zombie killing master that is Frank West. West returns to Willamette, Colorado for the holidays and, armed with a smartphone camera, he is keen document the trouble that he gets himself into along the way.
Not Your Standard Zombie Game
For those who are familiar with the franchise, you will be glad to know that the series playful take on the zombie apocalypse is back in full force.
For those that aren’t, this game doesn’t take itself too seriously like some of the other zombie games out there – Dead Rising 4 is about having fun killing hordes of the undead in the most creative ways that you can come up with. Frank has a truly large arsenal at his disposal and (if they had control of their minds) the zombies you encounter would be upsetto have ran into you.
New Weapons, Vehicles and More
With a new selection of weapons, vehicles and a knack for top quality craftsmanship to use against the biters, everything around you is a tool of destruction. It’s up to you to find out how to combine your equipment to create the most powerful zombie killing weapon possible.
Want to take off their heads with a candy cane crossbow? You can do that. What about mowing them down with an electricity-shooting go-kart? Go ahead – you can do that too! Your options are wide open and you will find everything you need to create just about any murderous tool that you can think of in Dead Rising 4‘s large sandbox world.
While Dead Rising 4 will run on the same Forge Engine that was used for the last game in the series, Capcom Vancouver have confirmed that a number of changes have been made to allow them to expand the title without risking performance.
The updated engine allows for a larger environment and a greater attention to detail. The visuals are the best in the franchise’s history, with huge explosions and flying zombie limbs sure to appease your blood-thirst. With all the visual eye candy to take it, this is easily the best looking entry to the hit franchise yet.
Likewise, you will also encounter vast zombie hordes that outnumber anything that you’ve ever seen in previous titles. Better yet, Capcom Vancouver have added some variety, with two new types of zombie enemies for you to smash to pieces. Freshly infected walkers, for example, will move quicker and come at you more aggressively. There are also new, intelligent foes, who will hide in the shadows until you’re in the perfect position to strike.
Dead Rising 4 looks to right the wrongs of the previous entry into the franchise by bringing the formula that earned it its popularity out from retirement. Even for a Dead Rising game, this addition offers an impressive amount of weapon customisation, plenty of violent action and a playful sense of humour that will appeal to fans both new and old.
Forget about turkey, family and festivities, we’re spending this Christmas with the zombies, shooting candy canes through their skulls and wrapping fairy lights round their necks!
